2022 Olympic Games. Semi-final. ROC - Sweden
17.02.2022
The ROC men's ice hockey team will today compete against Sweden in the semi-finals of the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Our players qualified for this stage of the competition with a tense 3:1 victory against Denmark, as Vadim Shipachyov, Nikita Nesterov and Vyacheslav Voynov hit the target. In the group stage, ROC had only conceded the one loss to the Czech Republic (5:6) in overtime after earning slender wins against Switzerland (1:0) and the Danes (2:0). A total of seven points was enough to finish in top spot of Group B and qualify automatically for the quarter-finals.
The Swedes outlasted Canada in their quarter-final, emerging victorious by a score of 2:0 with Lucas Wallmark and Anton Lander (empty net) scoring and solid goaltender Lars Johansson stopping all 22 shots he faced. Earlier in the competition, Sweden had took second place of Group C, defeating Latvia (3:2) and Slovakia (4:1) and suffering a thrilling loss to the Finns (3:4 OT) after initially leading by three clear goals. Nevertheless, their haul of seven points was enough to earn the Swedes direct qualification for the quarter-finals as a consequence of possessing more points than any other team in second place of its respective group.
Puck-drop is scheduled for 16:10 Moscow time. Rossiya 1 will provide a live television broadcast in Russia, and you can follow text updates on our official Twitter account.
