2020 World W18 Championship. Russia W18 - Sweden W18
30.12.2019
The under 18 Russian women's national team will compete against Sweden in the quarter-final stage of the 2020 IIHF World W18 Championship in Bratislava, Slovakia.
In Group A, Russia picked up four points from three games to claim third place, losing to Canada (2:3 OT) and the USA (0:1) before defeating Finland 4:2 in the concluding match. As a result of finishing in the top two positions, the Canadians and Americans qualify directly for the semi-finals, while the Russians and Finns must negotiate their respective quarter-finals.
Sweden, for their part, won two of their three matches in Group B, beating Slovakia 4:2 and Switzerland 2:0 while conceding a 1:3 defeat to the Czech Republic. The Swedes earned second spot of the group, trailing the Czechs by just the one point.
"I think that everything will be fine in the quarter-final on Monday, but we have to take less penalties than we did against Finland," stated Kristi Shashkina, who has scored three goals for Russia at the tournament so far.
Puck drop is scheduled for 22:30 Moscow time.
