World Junior Championship. Sweden U20 - Russia U20
Today on the 5th of January, the under 20 Russian national team will play Sweden in the 2017 World Junior Championship bronze medal game.
It was a heartbreaking semi-final for Russia yesterday, as a pulsating encounter ended with a 4:3 American shootout win. Our players came so close to winning, but in the end, the USA's Troy Terry was just too good. After that match, all of the team noted the tough manner of defeat, however they will have to regroup for this game. On a more positive note, goaltender Ilya Samsonov achieved a fantastic shutout streak of 167 minutes and 24 seconds.
Sweden, who hadn't lost a game before the semi-final stage, were beaten by their Canadian hosts 2:5. Their main man to watch out for will be Buffalo Sabres forward Alexander Nylander, who is the competition's top scorer with 12 points (5+7), one ahead of Russia's Kirill Kaprizov on 11.
The Sweden U20 - Russia U20 match will begin at 23.30 Moscow time in Montreal, Canada. Match TV will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
