2019 World Junior Championship. Russia - Canada - 2:1

01.01.2019
In the fourth match of the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship group stage, the under 20 Russian national team defeated Canada 2:1 to finish in first place of Group A!

As expected, the Canadians came flying out of the blocks, and their early pressure resulted in a goal as Cody Glass fired an effort under goalkeeper Pyotr Kochetkov. Nevertheless, despite that setback, Russia responded well and Grigory Denisenko equalised on the powerplay with a one timer from the left faceoff circle.

The game was finely balanced, and midway through the third period, forward Pavel Shen powered through the Canadian defence and bundled the puck in to seal a dramatic 2:1 victory over the competition hosts!

Russia will now play Slovakia in the quarter-final phase of the tournament on January 2.
