19.05.2022
Vladislav Tretiak has been re-elected as president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation.
The election conference was hosted by the RIHF at Moscow's Ice Hockey Museum on May 19. 140 delegates attended the conference.
Tretiak presented a report on behalf of the RIHF to the delegates concerning his work between 2018 and 2022. The RIHF report was approved unanimously.
Following the presentation, the presidential election was held, in which Tretiak was unanimously re-elected for a fifth term at the helm of the RIHF.
The delegates were addressed by the president of the Russian Olympic Committee Stanislav Pozdnyakov and the deputy minister of sport Alexei Morozov. The latter pointed out that 765 sporting schools have been registered in Russia, and that the amount of people in these schools has risen from 96 thousand to almost 100 thousand across the previous four years.
Furthermore, Dmitry Savin, who is the deputy manager of the Sport Talent and Success Foundation, touched upon the cooperation between the RIHF and the Sirius Educational Centre.
In conclusion, the RIHF president presented the program for the period from 2022 to 2026.
Elections for the control and revision commission of the RIHF were also held.
President of the RIHF Vladislav Tretiak:
- Ice hockey is my life. I would like to thank the delegates and the RIHF board for their faith shown in me and for supporting my candidacy. They have given me the opportunity to continue working for the benefit of ice hockey, our favourite sport. We have a lot of targets for Russian ice hockey. We need to develop ice hockey at youth level, construct rinks and educate coaches. Also, of course, we have to stage competitions and continue developing our national teams. At this moment in time, our national teams are temporarily banned from international tournaments. Nevertheless, this shouldn't affect the players' training process. Moreover, the fans shouldn't suffer either, they want to watch their favourite national team play on the ice. The RIHF will do everything possible in order to make sure that the national team plays. We will find partners and put together a tournament plan. This is one of our main goals. When our team is allowed to play internationally again, we have to be fully ready in order to challenge for gold medals. One of our priorities is also the development of youth ice hockey. We will organise a special youth league for players between the ages of 15 and 17, in order to make sure that they don't move abroad.
Chairman of the RIHF board Arkady Rotenberg:
- The development of ice hockey isn't stopping, the RIHF has a lot of relevant targets and priorities. One of our key jobs is to work closely with youth sport. Our sport requires more youth tournaments, more regional and federal competitions. We will launch projects which will increase the opportunities to play ice hockey and for the next generation to become interested in it. It is very important to continue fully developing the structure of our national teams. The RIHF will train players and our national teams. Everything is being undertaken in the interests of Russia. This includes the tightening of the limit of foreigners allowed to play at club level.
