The Russian national team played in its 700th match. The players have won 417 games, drawn 43 and lost 240. The goal difference is 2256-1626 in Russia's favour. 

This was the first time when Russia and Finland competed against each other in the World Championship bronze medal game. Overall, the Russians have won four of those fixtures and lost three.

Valery Nichushkin tallied up three assists in this game.
