World Championship third place play-off. Russia - USA

22.05.2016

Today on the 22nd of May, the Russian national team will take on the USA in the 2016 World Championship third place play-off match.

Matches between these two countries are always pulsating affairs, and today should be no different. During this tournament, the Americans have been up and down, however after finishing in third place of Group B, they shocked the Czech Republic by winning 2:1 on penalty shots. In the semi-final stage, they put up a good fight against Canada eventually going down 3:4, and this young group of players won't give up easily. Forwarda Auston Matthews is their main threat, and he has nine points in as many games (6+3).

In Russia's semi-final with the Finns, it was a close run thing, and unfortunately Finland emerged 3:1 victors. Nevertheless, this match is a great opportunity to put that defeat behind us, and the players are hungry for a medal. Vadim Shipachyov continues to be the World Championship's top scorer with 16 points (5+11).

Our fan-zones in Moscow's Gorky Park, outside the Ice Palace and on Konyushennaya Square in Saint Petersburg will all be open, and you can enjoy the match on a big screen in the company of other fanatic ice hockey supporters! Entry is free.

The Russia - USA match will begin at 16:15 local time inside the Moscow Ice Palace. Match TV will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account!
