World Challenge Cup. Russia U17 - Canada Black - 2:3 SO

05.11.2016

On the 4th of November, the under 17 Russian national team took on Canada Black in the World Challenge Cup semi-final.

Both teams traded goals in the opening frame, as Canada replied to Andrei Svechnikov’s early strike. Russia would again take the lead in the second stanza through another Andrei Svechnikov goal, but, unfortunately, Canada managed to find an equaliser before time was out.

It went all the way to penalty shots, where Canada proved to be the stronger. 2:3, Russia will now play for bronze tomorrow.

Amir Miftakhov, under 17 Russian national team goaltender:

- We were a bit unlucky in the shootout. I can say that all of the guys fought hard, we gave our all until the final seconds. It’s hard for me to pick out a certain moment in today’s game, I was making a lot of saves. My job is to stop pucks. In the penalty shootout, I was a bit nervous to begin with, but then you simply want to win. We don’t want to return home without a medal, we are Russia and we should win. We came here to become champions, but, sadly, we couldn’t do it. Tomorrow we will go for bronze.
