11.09.2026
Vladislav Tretiak, the President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF), attended the ceremonial unveiling of a monument dedicated to Vladimir Petrov, a legendary Soviet forward.

The monument was erected in Petrov’s hometown of Krasnogorsk, on the grounds of the academy named after the celebrated centre. Tretiak delivered a speech honouring his former CSKA Moscow and Soviet national team teammate.

Petrov became a two-time Olympic champion and nine-time world champion. Across his 12-year career on the international stage, Vladimir was a member of the legendary line with Boris Mikhailov and Valeri Kharlamov, notably finishing as the top scorer of three World Championships. A participant of the 1972 and 1974 Super Series against Canada, Petrov also won the 1979 Challenge Cup. Furthermore, Vladimir earned 11 domestic titles at club level with CSKA.

RIHF President Vladislav Tretiak:

"Petrov and I were teammates with the Soviet national team and CSKA for several years, winning every major tournament in the world! He was an extraordinary player, one of the greatest centre forwards in the history. His goals and assists helped us triumph at the most important international competitions.

"Russian ice hockey's 80-year history boasts a magnificent legacy. Therefore, it's pleasing that we preserve the memory of our legends and share the story of their achievements with everyone in our country. After all, these sporting victories did more than just bring joy to hundreds of millions of compatriots; they brought glory to our nation. The whole world would rise to its feet whenever our national anthem played and our flag was raised following our champions' successes.

"Vladimir Petrov dedicated his entire life to the sport he loved. Following the completion of his playing career, he led the Golden Puck program and shared his unique knowledge and experience while working with renowned clubs and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation. Vladimir contributed immensely to the development of our hockey. And, of course, he was a wonderful person. Young players will be able to look at his statue when going to training here at the local academy in Krasnogorsk."
