Hockey Unites! Creative concept for 80th anniversary season

04.09.2026
The 2026/2027 season will see Russian ice hockey celebrate its 80th anniversary!

The maiden USSR Ice Hockey Championship began across six different cities on 22 December 1946. In accordance with a decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier this summer, 22 December will now annually be known as Hockey Day in Russia.

The celebrations won't be limited to one day, though, as throughout the season we will look back at Russian hockey's most memorable moments and the heroes who participated in them. All competitions and events organised by the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) will indeed be staged in a celebratory manner.

A key part of the anniversary season will be the following creative concept developed by the RIHF.

The project is based around mosaics, which are of course steeped in tradition in Russia. Mikhail Lomonosov made a significant contribution to the development of Russian mosaic art, notably reviving the production of stained glass in the country.

Mosaic work is incredibly unique, with a multitude of tiny elements consisting of varying shapes, colours and sizes coming together to form a single image. For its part, the hockey family consists of athletes, coaches, fans, specialists and young players united by a love of the game, their respective teams and the country they represent.

"Hockey Unites!" has been selected as the motto of the anniversary season!

Hockey unites people, cities and the entire country. We are also united by the most important events in Russian hockey history, the landmark victories and achievements which have made generations of supporters proud.

After all, Russian hockey is - and continues to be - shaped by millions of people.
