The RIHF has submitted its appeal to CAS concerning the IIHF Council decisions

The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) has appealed the decisions made by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne.
On 27 July, the IIHF Council decided to uphold the ban on the participation of Russian teams in international competitions, despite the fact that the IIHF Disciplinary Board had previously overturned the IIHF Council's decision to extend the ban on all Russian teams competing in tournaments under the auspices of the IIHF.
To ensure compliance with procedural deadlines, the RIHF initially submitted a complaint to the IIHF Disciplinary Board regarding the IIHF Council's July decisions.
However, in the interest of resolving the dispute in a quick and efficient manner - and having reached an agreement with the IIHF with regard to the necessary conditions for appealing to CAS - the RIHF filed the full appeal material directly to CAS on 31 August.
The agreement with the IIHF also stipulates that the hearing on the case will take place in late October 2026, with the operative part of the decision to be announced shortly thereafter. Should CAS rule to allow Russian teams to participate in World Championships, that decision will be binding for the IIHF.
