World Championship. Russia - Sweden

17.05.2016

Today on the 17th of May, the Russian national team will complete their 2016 World Championship group stage campaign against Sweden.

For both sides, this is the deciding match of the tournament so far, and the winner will be guaranteed of at least finishing second in group A. Sweden have had a rather strange start to the World Championship, and with the squad missing a number of key men, they have struggled in some matches. Nevertheless, their only defeat has been against the Czech Republic (2:4), and just as always, they will offer stiff opposition. HC Salavat Yulaev Ufa forward Linus Omark, who already has six assists to his name, will be one of the players to look out for.

Russia comfortably defeated Norway 3:0 yesterday, and with 15 points do have a chance to finish in top spot of the group. Ilya Sorokin made his full World Championship debut in that game, and put on a perfect performance to stop all 27 shots.

Recently in the Euro Hockey Tour, these teams split two games with Sweden winning the first 4:1, and Russia taking revenge 4:0.
