18.02.2014

For play-off Qualification game with Team Norway Russian National Team Head Coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov made a number of changes. Ilya Nikulin was on the bench (we played with 7 defensemen) and Alexander Popov was transferred to Yevgeni Malkin line for Alexander Syomin position. Two Alexanders – Yeryomenko and Svitov were also left on bench.

Team Russia began very actively – Alexander Ovechkin was especially zealous, trying to make Lars Haugen work from the first minutes. The best moment was after Popov shooted along gates from the backhand, but Malkin didn’t get the puck and it got in centimeters from gate pipe. In the second period Bilyaletdinov Team added in speed component. On the 34-th minute Radulov selected puck in the middle zone played over three players but couldn’t score. The final segment was started from Olimb’s penalty. We couldn’t implement our power play for the third time. On the 52nd minute Ovechkin was stopped by defenseman but referees didn’t put penalty shot. Till the 39 seconds before siren Alexei Tereschenko opened his goals’ account in Sochi.
