Pre-season camp for VHL referees

Referees who will officiate in the OLIMPBET Russian Championship - All-Russian Hockey League during the 2026/2027 season are currently involved in a training camp in Moscow Region.

Head referees and linesmen are engaging in on-ice sessions, skate preparation techniques, physical tests and theory lessons while studying in-game incidents and how the rules and regulations can be applied accordingly. This format allows for the referees' readiness for the season to be assessed objectively.

Special attention is being paid to the officials' physical condition.

Head of the Organisation for Championship Refereeing Sergei Kulakov:

"The initial results have pleasantly surprised me. It's clear just how well the guys prepared for the training camp, and they're working with a positive attitude. We're focusing on making sure that the officials can withstand stressful situations on the ice, maintain concentration and be in great physical shape.

"As usual, the target is to ensure that everyone progresses, develops and becomes stronger both mentally and physically. Our psychologist, Mila Yasenenskaya, is putting in a huge amount of effort! She's helping referees to communicate with players and coaches in the correct manner during matches."

VHL referee Tornike Kuchava:

"In comparison to previous years, the tests have certainly become more difficult. With the management trying to make sure that we take the step to the next level, the demands are becoming tougher. Nonetheless, we're full of desire to progress and grow; we began training again only a couple of weeks after the 2025/2026 season ended.

"Experienced referees are continuing to progress, while the younger ones are fast, good readers of the game and solid skaters. The main thing is to be selected for the campaign and provide officiating of a high level."

Following the camp's completion, the referees will begin to officiate pre-season games and competitions. They will then subsequently receive additional recommendations before the start of the campaign.
