U16 Sirius Cup. Day one

Day one of the Sirius Cup saw two U16 Russian national teams face each other, with the Reds emerging victorious against the Whites 2 by a comfortable score of 5:2.

The Whites 2 did initially open the scoring in the early stages of the first period.

Nevertheless, the Reds came roaring back in the second, registering four consecutive goals through Kirill Rodionov, Serafim Gamanilov, Daniil Tertyshny and Dary Malyshev to open up an emphatic lead which consequently allowed them to coast home.

The competition will continue with a match between Russia Whites 1 and Russia Blues tomorrow morning at 10:45 local time in Sochi.

"Having conceded first, we subsequently felt more fired up and tried to avoid committing mistakes. We followed our game plan and managed to win. My two goals? It's all down to teamwork."

Russia Whites 2 goalkeeper Gleb Pakhomov:

"We had initially started well and taken the lead. I did begin the game on the bench, but I thought that I played confidently after entering proceedings in the second stanza. There's healthy competition within our team among the goaltenders, we're all trying to show our best ice hockey."
