October 5 marks the 73rd anniversary of Sergei Mikhalyov's birthday, an honoured Russian ice hockey coach who won the domestic championship, the European Cup and the silver medal of the national league during his successful career.

Sergei coached Salavat Yulaev Ufa, Lada Tolyatti, TSSK VVS Samara, Severstal Cherepovets, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and Russian national teams. Sadly, in the 68th year of his life, Sergei passed away in a car accident. He was returning home from the funeral of fellow coach Valeri Belousov.
