Nikolai Belov attended the training camp at Artek

22.12.2025
The Artek International Children's Centre hosted Hockey Day, one of the most notable events of the winter training camp for young players.

On 22 December which is regarded as the founding day of domestic ice hockey, former defenseman of the Russian national team and Gagarin Cup winner Nikolai Belov was a guest. A long-term top-level player, he now works as a youth hockey coach.

In the morning, the children completed a set of exercises which Nikolai uses in his current professional practice. The exercises were simple and straightforward—and that's precisely their strength. Basic elements, performed systematically, gradually builds consistency which sustains a long season.

After the morning training session, Nikolai spent several hours at Artek. He attended a Red Machine training session, observing the activity and offering advice concerning skating technique, stick handling and puck handling. These tips also touched on factors which directly influence an athlete's development: physical fitness, discipline, daily planning and the ability to balance training with studies.

Nikolai also answered questions with regard to living as a professional player and how a person's attitude towards ice hockey changes when he/she subsequently switches to coaching.

This event was made possible thanks to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation's partnership with Nornickel. The two parties are continuing to introduce the Red Machine National Development Program across the country.
