Reaction following the Olympic semi-final win against the Swedes
18.02.2022
Following the dramatic penalty shootout against Sweden in the semi-finals of the 2022 Olympic Games, ROC men's ice hockey team defenseman Yegor Yakovlev and forwards Nikita Gusev and Arseniy Gritsyuk shared their emotions.
Defenseman Yegor Yakovlev:
- I knew what to do with my shot when I stepped up, I wanted to shoot under the arm. Thank you to Danis Zaripov who once told me that it's the best zone to aim for when taking a penalty shot. However, I have played with some of Sweden's players, so I was worried that they would have told their goaltender that information. I am happy that everything worked out well.
Forward Nikita Gusev:
- I was a bit cold for the shootout, so I didn't perform as I would have wanted to. I knew what to do with my penalty shots, but they have a good goalkeeper. We play together for the same club, he knew my approach. Nevertheless, the main thing is that we won.
Forward Arseniy Gritsyuk:
- I was certainly to blame for the Swedish goal, I lost the puck at the neutral zone and the player who I supposed to mark. Naturally, I was very disappointed about that, but Ivan Fedotov helped me out and he gave us a chance. My winning penalty shot? I knew exactly what I was going to do.
