In Tatarstan, the 2018/2019 KHL season started with a match between Ak Bars Kazan and HC SKA Saint Petersburg, with the latter running out convincing 6:1 winners.
Before the puck was dropped, Russian Ice Hockey Federation president Vladislav Tretiak, KHL president Dmitry Chernyshenko, president of the Tatarstan Ice Hockey Federation Nail Maganov and the mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin participated in a special opening ceremony.
