In game five of the VHL final, SKA-Neva Saint Petersburg defeated HC Dynamo Saint Petersburg 4:3 in the sixth overtime period to reduce the series deficit to 2:3.
After 163 minutes and 36 seconds, SKA-Neva forward Svyatoslav Grebenshchikov scored the winning goal to make it 4:3 in SKA-Neva's favour. It is a new Russian record for the longest ice hockey match in the country's history.
The match continued for exactly seven hours. SKA-Neva defenseman Yegor Rykov earned more minutes on the ice than anyone else: 61.19.
