The RIHF signed an agreement with the Steel Hockey League

02.04.2026
Vladislav Tretiak, the President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF), and Andrei Glukhov, the General Director of the Steel Hockey League, signed a cooperation agreement.

The document provides for collaboration in all areas related to the popularisation and development of ice hockey such as organising competitions, promoting a healthy lifestyle and patriotic education.

The Steel Hockey League is a sporting and patriotic project aimed at supporting and reintegrating combat veterans. It unites 20 teams from across the country, hosting tournaments and various sporting events.

RIHF President Vladislav Tretiak:

"We have sincere respect for those who are defending our nation. Every generation has many heroes who have set perfect examples of patriotism, courage and devotion, and the Steel Hockey League unites these remarkable people through ice hockey.

"Vladimir Putin has set the goal of ensuring that 70% of our population engages in physical education and sport. In order to fulfill his directives, the RIHF is working hard in a variety of areas. We promote sport at all levels, and of course we're always ready to cooperate with projects such as the Steel Hockey League. It brings together a wide range of cities, regions and people. Ice hockey is indeed our national sport!

"When combat veterans gather to play ice hockey, it's beneficial for both their physical and mental wellbeing. They also set a wonderful example for their children and grandchildren! The ability to work as a team is vital in sport, the arm and in regular everyday life.

"The Steel Hockey League has already made a name for itself: its tournaments are growing in popularity and new teams are constantly appearing. I hope our collaboration will be productive. For its part, the RIHF will do everything possible to help the league grow stronger, become even more widespread and see more people get involved in it."

Student Hockey League President Vladimir Lyutov:

"The signing of the agreement is a significant and momentous event for our league. I am sincerely grateful to the Russian Ice Hockey Federation for its openness to cooperation and willingness to support all areas of development. The support of the RIHF, as well as our partner's experience and expertise, is crucial to us. This collaboration will allow us to successfully develop, move forward and accomplish a very important task. After all, our project unites combat veterans. This is more than just sport - it's a crucial stage in a person's life, opening up new horizons and opportunities for socialisation. When they take to the ice, players of the Steel Hockey League feel the support of the people, see that they are in demand by society, and that their heroism is truly appreciated by the country."
