During his business trip to Yekaterinburg, the President of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) Vladislav Tretiak held a meeting with the leadership of the city's RIHF branch.

Tretiak reviewed a report by Evgeny Demenshin, Head of the Competitions Department, with regard to youth, women's and amateur tournaments staged in Yekaterinburg and Sverdlovsk Region. The RIHF President made recommendations on how to improve the region's sports training system and outlined the key areas for developing the ice hockey system.

RIHF President Vladislav Tretiak:

"Sverdlovsk Region is one of our country's key ice hockey regions, producing outstanding players and candidates for Russian national teams. The region stands out when it comes to the development of our sport, and we are undertaking extensive work in order to progress further. We have a competition system of a high calibre, improved youth training, taken tournament organisatin to the next level and have achieved good progress when it comes to constructing new arenas.

"We thoroughly discussed the situation in all areas which included youth hockey, the Golden Puck competition and women's tournaments. These areas have already achieved worthy achievements and good results, but you can't relax for a second. Areas for further development and progress were outlined. The RIHF helps improve the conditions in which young athletes train and play, and places special emphasis on professional development for all ice hockey specialists. Regular training for coaches and referees is conducted, and the most advanced innovative methods, such as the Red Machine National Development Program, are being implemented into the education process. Improving the quality of work with the younger generation of players is crucial, as it translates into both more effective training and the involvement of our youth in physical education and sport."
