Four Nations. Russia U17 - USA U17 - 1:4

17.12.2016

The under 17 Russian national team played the second game of the Four Nations tournament in Switzerland against the USA.

Having beaten the Swiss yesterday, our players were confident coming into this one. However, they ended up being given a nasty jump back down to earth by the Americans. Grigory Denisenko opened the scoring for Russia, but four consecutive USA goals sealed Russia's fate - 1:4. The team will play the final game of this competition tomorrow against Slovakia. Puck drop is scheduled for 13:00 Moscow time.

Russia U17 head coach Igor Efimov:

- In the first period, we took three poor penalties. It's good that we killed their powerplays off, but we lost a lot of strength. Later on in the second stanza, the Americans were stronger. The guys fought hard, really wanted to win, however the Americans were heavier and taller than us. Forward Andrei Sholgin tried his best, but at this level, effort is not enough. You have to be a quality player too. In the third frame, we rotated the roster a bit. Fifteen seconds before the end, we even pulled the goaltender for the extra skater. We made a good play too, Nikita Solopanov missed the net with the goalkeeper beaten. We wanted to prove that we will fight to the end, no matter what the score is. It's good that during this year, we have played against the Canadians and Americans. The guys should see how the ice hockey world is developing.

Match protocol:
