Interviews before playing Slovakia at the World Junior Championship

31.12.2016

After training for the final 2016 World Junior Championship match with Slovakia, Russia U20 forward Pavel Karnaukhov and defenseman Yegor Voronkov both spoke about the upcoming game.

Russia U20 forward Pavel Karnaukhov:

- It's never nice to lose. Nevertheless, after being defeated to the USA, we had a talk and immediately moved on. Personally, I have made mistakes too, but I have already made conclusions. We have created problems for ourselves, however physically, we feel good.

My line isn't scoring many goals? Ice hockey is a team sport. We need to play the right way, attack the opposing net and also block shots at the other end. Tomorrow, an important game against Slovakia is coming up.

Russia U20 defenseman Yegor Voronkov:

- Against the Americans, we failed to use our goalscoring chances in the second and third periods. It's was disappointing, but the whole tournament is ahead of us. We're always communicating, we have to take the initiative ourselves. I think that in this competition, there will be other games where the result depends on the third frame. In such moments, you show how much of a team you are.

A lot of our problems are caused by not starting matches well. Overal, we cannot give the opponents time and space. We're working over this.

Our team is not giving up, we will fight until the end. Together, we can break the opponents down.
