Women's World Junior Championship. Russia - Czech Republic - 2:0

The under 18 Russian women's national team played the Czech Republic in their World Junior Championship. Russia beat Sweden 2:1 on penalty shots yesterday to set up a meeting with the Czechs, while the opponents came second in their group ahead of Finland and Japan. Head coach Evgeny Bobariko kept Valeria Merkusheva in net for this one.
After a cautious opening period, the match burst into life in the second. Oksana Bratischeva broke the deadlock, before Elena Provorova doubled the advantage fifty seconds before the buzzer.
Despite the Czechs' best efforts, Russia held on to a 2:0 victory! The team will play the USA in the semi-finals.
