Interviews after beating Latvia at the Universiade
Russian men's student national team head coach Vladislav Khromykh:
- It was a tight game, the score doesn't reflect what happened on the ice. In the first two periods, Latvia played aggressive ice hockey. We had problems in our own zone, but in the third period, we managed to change things up and score on our chances. There is time to correct our mistakes before the next game. Because of the guys only getting together last week, they still need time to get used to one another. We will keep working.
Russian men's student national team forward Nikita Sirotkin:
- After the previous match, we found it tough. Latvia are a serious opponent, they play physical ice hockey. The coach warned us about this, but not everything went to plan. It's good that we stepped it up in the closing stages. In the second break, we were asked to play more tight in defence and help the goalkeeper. We took a lot of penalties, but nevertheless, the guys did good job.
Russian men's student national team forward Andrei Alexeev:
- We were provoked into taking penalties, it's our own fault. However, the players worked hard and achieved a positive result. All of the groups are the same, we don't divide opponents up into strong and weak ones. In the future, the opposing teams will be even better, we're preparing for them. Thanks to the fans for their support, I know that a lot of them are watching our games. This victory is for them.
