2017 Winter Universiade. Final. Kazakhstan - Russia

On the 8th of February, the Russian men's student national team will take on Kazakhstan in the 2017 Winter Universiade final.

Despite their lowly status on the overall international front, Kazakhstan are traditionally strong on student level, making the 2015 Universiade showpiece match. Indeed, just like two years ago, they have been impressive during the competition, winning all of their group matches: 22:0 against China, 5:0 against Sweden and 8:0 against the Czech Republic. In the quarter-final, they thrashed the Czechs again 4:1.

Russia breezed into the final with a 4:1 beating of Canada, in turn keeping their perfect record at the tournament intact. Andrei Alexeev is the team's top scorer with thirteen points (5+8).

In the 2015 final, Russia beat Kazakhstan 3:1.
