Women's World Championship. Russia - USA
The senior Russian women's national team will play the second match at the World Championship against hosts the USA.
Russia got off to a flying start yesterday, beating Finland 2:1 in dramatic fashion. The team trailed to their Finnish opponents after two periods, but a beautiful Fanuza Kadirova goal got them back on terms before Yekaterina Smolentseva's winner with just fifty seconds remaining. Goalkeeper Nadezhda Alexandrova made 25 saves in the game.
Pre-tournament favourites and reigning world champions the USA also won their first match, defeating their Canadian rivals 2:0. Both America and Russia lead the way in Group A with three points each.
