Czech Hockey Games. Sweden - Russia - 4:3 OT
In Stockholm, the senior Russian national team took on Sweden for the first match of the Czech Hockey Games. Head coach Oleg Znarok opted to give Andrei Vasilevskiy a start in net, while putting Sergei Mozyakin, Vladimir Tkachyov and Sergei Plotnikov together in the first line.
Russia made a positive start in the Swedish capital, scoring twice in an eventful first period. Sergei Mozyakin's pass to Vladimir Tkachyov was deflected past Swedish goalkeeper Eddie Lack on the breakaway, before Viktor Antipin's weak effort squirmed under the body.
The Swedes got on the board early in the second, but Russia soon reinstated their two goal lead. Sergei Mozyakin was once again the hero, clinically slotting in when on the man's advantage. Our players were in the box seat, but, out of the blue, they threw away the 3:1 scoreline in the third period. John Klingberg and Victor Rask netted quickfire goals, taking the match into overtime.
Unfortunately, Gabriel Landeskog sneaked clean through to backhand over Andrei Vasilevskiy in the extra frame. 3:4, Russia lose in Sweden.
