Sweden - Russia. A statistical look

At 26 World Championships. Russia have competed in 200 matches. Our country boasts 139 victories, 12 draws and 49 defeats. The goal difference is 774 - 422 in Russia's favour. Ilya Kovalchuk is the top scorer with 34 goals.

This was our team's ninth consecutive victory against Sweden at World Championships. The last time when Sweden beat the Russians at a major tournament was back in 2004 (4:2).

Defensemen Vladislav Gavrikov, Artyom Zub, Ivan Provorov and Bogdan Kiselevich made their senior World Championship debuts, as well as forwards Sergei Andronov, Alexander Barabanov, Nikita Gusev, Nikita Kucherov, Vladislav Namestnikov and Vladimir Tkachyov. 

Sergei Andronov scored on his World Championship debut, while Alexander Barabanov and Ivan Provorov picked up their first assists. 

Artemiy Panarin has 40 points (22+18) from just 43 Russian national team appearances. He is also only the fourth Russian player to win a shootout at a World Championship. The others were Valery Karpov, Maxim Afinogenov and Alexei Morozov.

Nikita Kucherov has played in 10 national team games, taking 6 points (4+2).

This is the 81st ice hockey World Championship.
