Reaction after beating Germany at the 2021 Women's World Championship

30.08.2021
Following the slender 3:2 victory against Germany in the first of two 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship classification matches, senior Russian women's national team head coach Evgeny Bobariko, defender Anna Savonina and forward Veronika Korzhakova shared their emotions:

Head coach Evgeny Bobariko:

- The team showed its character, but the players can play a lot better. Yes, it was difficult psychologically after the quarter-final defeat, but the players displayed their spirit and managed to earn the victory. We played well on the crease, often blocking the goalkeeper's view. We have been conceding easy goals at this compeition, but it's really tough for us to score. We need to finish in fifth place of the tournament in order to protect our spot in Group A. We're happy with how our young players are progressing, they will continue to improve through matches. Women's ice hockey is developing in Russia, more and more people are paying attention to it.

Defender Anna Savonina:

- The disappointment of the quarter-final did take its toll on us, we found it difficult mentally. After the second period, we knew that we had to make a big improvement in order to emerge victorious. We will now have fresh heads for our next game.

Forward Veronika Korzhakova:

- Of course, we were all disappointed after losing in the quarter-finals, we wanted to compete in the semi-finals. Nevertheless, I am really happy that I managed to score my first World Championship goal today, I need to continue showing my ice hockey and helping the team.
