2021 World Championship. Russia - Sweden - 3:2 SO

31.05.2021
In the sixth match of the 2021 IIHF World Championship, the senior Russian national team managed to secure qualification for the quarter-finals of the competition, defeating Sweden 3:2 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Vladimir Tarasenko, making his debut at the competition, tallied the shootout winner with a beautiful attempt after Ivan Morozov, Anton Burdasov, Adrian Kempe and Jonathan Pudas had all traded goals.

Initially, Sweden had taken the lead in the first period on the powerplay, but Russia replied with two quick-fire markers from Anton Slepyshev and Burdasov, with the pair both scoring in the 53rd minute.

To their credit, the Swedes did manage to quickly equalise, but the one point wasn't enough to keep their tournament hopes alive.

The Russians will now prepare to face Belarus tomorrow. Puck-drop is scheduled for 20:15 Moscow time.
