100 years since the birth of Evgeny Babich

Evgeny Babich, a legendary Soviet athlete who won the 1956 Olympic Games and the World Championship twice in 1954 and 1956, would have turned 100 years of age today on January 7.

He also notably claimed the title of USSR champion in 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956.

At international competitions, Evgeny made 27 appearances, scoring six goals.
