2021 World Junior Championship. Russia U20 - Germany U20 - 2:1

02.01.2021
In the quarter-finals of the 2021 World Junior Championship, the junior Russian national team edged past Germany in Canada, claiming a tense 2:1 triumph.

Shorthanded, Vasily Ponomaryov opened the scoring in the first period, before Danil Bashkirov subsequently doubled the advantage in the second stanza with a snappy wrister which fizzed into the left corner.

However, with only four minutes on the clock in the third, Florian Elias hammered a wrist shot behind Yaroslav Askarov to halve the deficit for the opponents.

During the closing stages, the Germans applied plenty of pressure on Russia with Elias hitting the crossbar, but Askarov made plenty of solid saves to protect the lead for our team!

The semi-finals will be played on Monday.
