We gave the fans joy at the Channel One Cup, now we're waiting for the World Junior Championship

Vladislav Tretiak, the president of the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, shared his feelings following the triumphant second stage of the 2020/2021 Euro Hockey Tour and ahead of the upcoming 2021 World Junior Championship:

Dear friends!

The past week was certainly an eventful one. The national team won the home stage of the Euro Hockey Tour, the World Hockey Forum was held in Moscow and the logo of the 2023 World Junior Championship was presented at the Ice Hockey Museum,

Our players gave us great joy with their excellent performances at the Channel One Cup, once again demonstrating the rich ice hockey traditions which we have in our country. The national team won all three matches while playing in accordance with our system. No less important are the joint efforts with our colleagues from other federations, thanks to which this tournament was held. All involved parties responsibly approached the issue of being in the "bubble", everyone cooperated and helped each other, and I am glad to thank everyone who was involved in staging the competition. The main thing is that we are continuing to play ice hockey through these difficult times.

The World Hockey Forum reached its conclusion ended on December 17. This was the fifth such event and it is a great success for the entire ice hockey community that we had the opportunity to get together, albeit online, to discuss all the key trends in the development of the game. The forum was attended by all representatives of the world ice hockey community: the IIHF, heads of national federations and as well as the Commissioner of the NHL, Gary Bettman. The key topic this year was the current topic of digitalization. Thanks to our friends from IIHF, the Ministry of Sport, the Russian Olympic Committee and the Moscow Sporting Department for their help in holding the forum. All participants learnt something new!

Another important event was the presentation of the 2023 World Junior Championship logo, it is a great honour for us to host the tournament! Now the competition finally has its own face. At the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, we are grateful to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for their trust. I'm sure that everyone at the tournament in Novosibirsk and Omsk will really enjoy themselves!

In addition to purely sporting events, the Court of Arbitration for Sport announced its decision. At upcoming competitions, our players can wear jerseys with the colours of our flag and the word "Russia" displayed on them. Yes, we will play without our anthem, but we successfully coped with this at the 2018 Olympic Games in South Korea. Russia is always in our hearts!

As you know, our junior national team is now in Edmonton, as the guys continue to prepare for the World Championship. Despite the best efforts of the organisers, coronavirus has already had an effect on the tournament. In this regard, I am very glad that everyone in our team came out of quarantine healthy, they're all ready to play and fight for victory!

The World Junior Championship is a New Year's tradition. 2020 wasn't an easy year, but 2021 is just around the corner. Families and companies will gather at the festive tables - and ice hockey, as always, will be an important part of the festive period.

I wish you and your families good health in the coming year. May the year be a successful one for us all!
