The first ice hockey match for blind players took place in Russia

On Hockey Day, the first ice hockey match for blind players in Russia took place in Moscow, with Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RIHF) president Vladislav Tretiak subsequently sharing his thoughts on the historic event:

"The RIHF, together with the Children's Sledge Hockey League, is undertaking a lot of work concerning the formation and development of adaptive hockey in Russia," stated Tretiak. "We are already accustomed to how actively sledge hockey is developing, new adaptive ice hockey teams are being created in different regions of our country. This is the strongest motivation for the players, a serious step to play hockey. It is very important that there are no barriers to participating in our national sport, so that absolutely any person can feel like a part of a large ice hockey family and a well-coordinated Russia Hockey system."

Two teams named Fortuna (Moscow) and Yuman (Cheboksary) competed in the game at the Spartak Arena in the Russian capital.

Ice hockey for the visually impaired appeared in Russia last year with special rules and equipment to help players. For example, the puck for the blind is made of steel and is much larger than usual. There are eight ball bearings inside it, and thanks to the hollow design, the puck makes certain sounds. A special whistle with ultrasound and tapping with clubs helps to navigate by ear.

The day ended with photographs and gifts.

The development of children's and youth sports, including children's adaptive hockey, is an important area of ​​work for the RIHF.
