07.11.2020
In the second match of the 2020/2021 Euro Hockey Tour in Helsinki, Finland, the senior Russian national team displayed plenty of character to claim a dramatic 2:1 triumph over Sweden in a penalty shootout.

The initial 40 minutes of the game ended goalless. With less than five minutes remaining on the clock in the third period, Sweden managed to take the lead with Anton Wedin grabbing the opener, but the Russians conjured up a response in the closing moments as Rodion Amirov whipped a wonderful wrister beyond the goalkeeper.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Amirov and Vasily Podkolzin both struck gold, while goaltender Yaroslav Askarov stopped four of the five shots he faced to secure the win.

Russia will now prepare to take on the Czech Republic in the concluding game of the Karjala Cup at the Hartwall Arena on Sunday. Puck drop is scheduled for 14:30 Moscow time.
