In the second friendly match ahead of the 2020 Youth Olympic Games, the under 16 Russian national team edged CSKA Moscow 2003-2004 in Novogorsk, earning a 4:3 penalty shootout victory.

Initially, CSKA took a 3:0 lead, but an impressive hat-trick from Matvey Michkov equalised in regulation time before Ivan Miroshnichenko scored the winning penalty shot in the ensuing shootout.

Russia U16 will travel to Switzerland for the 2020 Youth Olympic Games on January 15. The team will then compete against Canada (January 18, 16:00 Moscow time) and Denmark (January 20, 16:00 Moscow time) in the group stage of the competition.
