Ilya Vorobyov: "The match was going to be decided by one goal"
25.05.2019
Head coach of the senior Russian national team, Ilya Vorobyov, shared his opinions on the 0:1 defeat to Finland in the 2019 IIHF World Championship semi-final:
- We couldn't force the puck over the line. During the final stages, three Finnish players threw themselves in the way of the puck every time we had a shot, and I wanted us to have more shots on goal. The match was decided by one goal, and unfortunately, we didn't score it. Finland fought hard, they played well in defence and attack without making any mistakes. We had studied Kevin Lankinen's tactics. Was it easier against the Americans? Maybe. I told the guys to prepare for the next game.
