06.01.2019
The under 20 Russian national team defeated Switzerland 5:2 in Canada to claim bronze at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Switzerland put up a good fight, but Russia eventually proved too strong, claiming a tough 5:2 victory in an entertaining battle.

Kirill Slepets and Nikita Shashkov, who scored the second shorthanded, opened up a 2:0 lead in the opening period. Valentin Nussbaumer halved the deficit for Switzerland in the second, and after Klim Kostin reinstated the two-goal advantage, Yannick Bruschweiler again dragged the opponents to within one.

Nevertheless, the Russians sealed the victory in the third period, with Kirill Slepets scoring twice to secure a hat trick! His second was scored into the empty net after Switzerland opted to pull goalkeeper Luca Hollenstein.
