Alexander Dergachyov: "I am proud of our team"

06.01.2016

Junior Russian national team forward Alexander Dergachyov expressed his disappointment after the 2016 IIHF World Championship final:

- What was missing today?

- I don't know. We gave everything, we found our added reserves. We conceded stupid goals, I have no words for Finland's goals at all.

- Did you not manage to change shifts in time when Finland scored the winning goal?

- No, we lost our position and the Finnish player took advantage of the open ice.

- This is the second silver medal in a row.

- I have no words. Sorry, Russia, that we have again lost in the final. We really did want to win!

- Do you have any questions for the referees?

- You saw everything yourselves. I won't comment on this.

- Putting the final aside, you had a great tournament.

- I agree, the tournament was interesting. We showed our character on a number of occasions. I am proud of our team, and Valery Bragin brought us all together to become one united unit.

- After equalising, we thought that you should have an advantage in overtime.

- Yes, we had a rest in the locker room before finding our emotions again. I couldn't believe that we managed to equalise, we needed to go into the last fight and win but we couldn't do it.

- What is the difference between last year's final and this year's?

- Last year Canada put the pressure on straight away, while Finland simply played good hockey.
