The coaches of youth and women's national teams have come together
In the Olympic Committee building in Moscow, a meeting was between Russia's junior and women's national team coaches.
The meeting was chaired by the two time Olympic champion Boris Mayorov, and was attended by the RIHF's first vice-president Roman Rotenberg, honoured coaches Vladimir Yurzinov, Nikolai Uryupin and Igor Tuzik, two time Olympic champion Vladimir Petrov as well as the following junior national team head coaches: Vitaly Prokhorov (U18), Sergei Golubovich (U17) and Evgeny Filinov (U16). The women's first national team coach Mikhail Chekanov and youth coach Alexander Ulyankin were also present.
In December, the U16 team headed by Evgeny Filinov played a series of games in the Czech Republic (2 victories and 1 defeat). At the end of January, the team got together in two separate categories: one half will prepare for the 2016 Youth Olympic Games in Norway, while other players born in 2000 will take part in the Five Nations tournament in Sweden with coach Ivan Vydryakov. On Saturday, both of these teams will play against a CSKA-1999 side.
U17 coach Sergei Golubovich spoke about the results from the Four Nations tournament in Sweden (our team came first). At the start of February, the team will begin to train for the Five Nations tournament in the USA. A few days ago the team played against their Russian U16 counterparts, and won 4:3 on penalty shots.
Vitaly Prokhorov was present to talk about the progress of his U18 team. In the World Junior A Challenge in December the team came second, and after that competition the team has continued to perform successfully in the MHL. Playoff qualification has already been guaranteed, and the players currently occupy first place of their division. Between the 10th and 14th of February, the team will take part in a Five Nations tournament in Rauma, Finland. The team will then prepare for the World Championship in Novogorsk on a Canadian sized hoceky rink.
The women's junior national team head coach Alexander Ulyankin relayed his thoughts following the recent World Championship in Canada, where our girls took fourth place. The team's performance was deemed satisfactory.
At the Four Nations and Nations Cup, the main women's national team took third place. Starting from the 4th of February, 28 players are training in Novogorsk ahead of an upcoming tournament in Sweden. That will be head coach Mikhail Chekanov's last chance to look at his players before the World Championship.
