06.03.2016

In a special gala-match, the Russian women's national team took to the ice inside the small VTB Ice Palace's arena.

With the WHL having only just finished, the players arrived from a number of cities all around Russia. Nevertheless they had a big game coming up right away, and their first friendly opponents in preparation for the 2016 IIHF World Championship in Canada were a league of women's hockey selects team.

It was literally professionals against amateurs, and the national team girls made their class count. Russia were ahead 12:0 after two periods, however head coach Mikhail Chekanov wasn't too happy: "Why are we playing so slowly? I am not happy with all of my players. Some are holding back so that they don't get injured before the World Championship. We will have medical tests tomorrow, and then fly to Canada on the 20th of March".

The amateurs had a few chances in the second, and after that scare Russia scored two more goals to make it a final score of 14:0!
