Grigory Mkrtychan, a legendary Soviet ice hockey goalkeeper who won the gold medal at the 1954 World Championship, would today have turned 100 years of age.
He did indeed participate in the USSR national team's first official match in history.
Sadly, Grigory passed away on 14 February 2003. However, in 2004, he was subsequently inducted into the Russian Hockey Hall of Fame.
