24.05.2016

On Tuesday the 24th of May, a meeting was held inside the Russian Ice Hockey Federation's office concerning the founding of the Student Hockey League. The league's creation is an important part of the Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin's plan following the conference in Kazan on the 22nd of April 2016.

The RIHF's executive director Dmitry Kurbatov, the FISU president Oleg Matytsin, the Sverdlovsk Region chief's advisor Vyacheslav Potekhin and the acting president of the Russian students sporting union Sergei Seyranov all attended the event.

During the discussion, a founding treaty for the league was established, and it was approved by the governing body - the board has been made up of Dmitry Kurbatov, Sergey Seyranov, Vyacheslav Potekhin and the deputy chairman of student hockey's development Anton Khramtsov. The board was elected by honoured Russian coach and chairman of student's hockey Vladimir Yurzinov. The league's managing director has been named as Anton Khramtsov.

The 2016/2017 season will be split up into two divisions: Bakalavr and Magistr.

For the debut campaign, the Magistr division will have two conferences, and they will be held as different tournaments in the respective cities. The four best teams will compete in final.

On the other hand, the Baklavr division will have six separate zones, and the winners of the first stage will then have the right to compete in the final division matches.
