Winners of a charity competition have been announced
Elena and Gennady Timchenko's charity and the Russian Ice Hockey Federation have revealed the laureates of the scientific and educational literature about ice hockey. The project was named as follows: "Say something about ice hockey."
21 applications were put in for the competition from eight Russian regions and one from Belarus.
Seven winners were announced:
The "When I grow up, I want to become an ice hockey player" nomination:
- Sergei Vasilevich Eremeev - "My favourite ice hockey," Moscow. As a result of his book, children can learn all about ice hockey.
The "Ice hockey stories" nomination:
- Oleg Vasilevich Kuchenev - "Be in a team," Moscow. Oleg is a former physiotherapist in the USSR and Russia, and he has shared his personal ice hockey experiences which ordinary fans would not hear about.
- Leonid Mikhayovich Polyakov - "In love with ice hockey," Moscow. In his work, you can learn about the sport in the 1960's and 1970's.
- Mark Ayzikovich Furman - "Ice hockey's charm," Vladimir. His book contains information about the sport's history.
The "Coach's library" nomination:
- Leonid Vladimirovich Mikhno - "Theories and methods of ice hockey for coaches," Moscow. His book is a great tool for developing coaches who work with younger players.
- Alexander Viktorovich Ufimtsev - "Methodical programming of training young players," Chelyabinsk. His study concentrates on the issues surronding the training process organisation of training youth players.
The "Ice hockey profession" nomination:
- Yury Pavlovich Karandin - "Secrets of an ice hockey referee," Novosibirsk. This book should help all referees, figures who are involved in all aspects of the sport. Yury Karandin is one of the most successful referees, and his achievements have been recognised both in Europe and North America.
Maria Morozova, general director of the Timchenko charity:
- It's worth taking into account the amount of applications, which exceeded the expectations of the organisers. We had options for every category, and we can be happy about the fact that there is so much literature covering our sport.
Vladislav Tretyak, the Russian Ice Hockey Federation president:
- The Russian Ice Hockey Federation wants the sport to develop, and as well as training on the ice, there should be quality theory work. At this competition, literature was presented for coaches, young players and aspiring referees. This is really important for the development of youth ice hockey.

Elena and Gennady Timchenko's charity fund is one of the biggest family charities in Russia. They have been working over charitable events in Russia and abroad for 25 years. In 2010, the Timchenko Fund was created. The organisation focuses on helping develop children's sport, and help resolve social problems and improve Russian regions culturally by cooperating internationally with an humanitarial manner. This is done with the aims of fixing social problems in Russia, and taking international relations on to a different level. They are changing people's attitudes towards the older generation, and are improving the quality of life for Russian citizens. The charity also offers support to children, who have been left without parents. Sport is being made available for everyone, no matter people's age, physical conditions and where they live. Promotion of Russia's regional cultural development is also ongoing. The fund is strengthening cultural and sporting bridges between Russia and different countries, and are building friendly relations.
