14.12.2023
In the opening game of the 2023 Channel One Cup, Russia 25 powered past the Stars and VHL team in a tough battle, earning a 5:2 victory in Saint Petersburg.

Gleb Petrov initially gave the Stars and VHL the advantage in the second period. However, Vasily Glotov equalised midway through the frame, completing a flowing passing play.

Consecutive goals from Mikhail Vorobyov, Maxim Sorkin and Marat Khairullin - on the powerplay - put Russia in the driving seat in the third stanza. On a PP of their own, the opponents grabbed their second through Matvei Zaseda in the 49th minute, but Khairullin iced it with a late empty-netter.
