Interviews after Russia U16 played Kazakhstan U18
09.11.2023
Representatives of the under 16 Russian national team spoke following their game against Kazakhstan U18 at the President's Sporting Club Cup.
Russia U16 head coach Pavel Kanarsky:
- I didn't like how we started the match, the opponents managed to score a quick goal. In truth, our players were a bit scared of the Kazakhs initially because of the fact they're older and stronger. Nonetheless, they gained confidence as the progressed, but we were lacking in front of goal. In these matches, we can tell who we can rely on going forward. This is how you build a strong, reliable group which is united. It's time for the players to stop playing children's ice hockey, they must take the next step. We now have to prepare to face Belarus in the decisive game on Sunday.
Russia U16 goalkeeper Dmitry Borichyov:
- We conceded early on, but it was important that we equalised before the maiden stanza had ended. In my opinion, the rest of the match was pretty even, but luck wasn't on our side. This is a really useful experience for us, we're competing against players of MHL level. Their shots are stronger and tougher to save.
