Open training session in Novogorsk
27.10.2023
An open training session took place in Novogorsk ahead of the upcoming Liga Stavok Cup of the Future, which will take place in Saint Petersburg between the 3rd and 6th of November.
Following a training match between the U20 and U18 Russian national teams, the two respective head coaches spoke to the media.
Russia U20 head coach Nikolai Voevodin:
- We gained an understanding of how our guys are feeling. Following this game, we have managed to draw the required conclusions ahead of the upcoming tournament in Saint Petersburg. We asked our guys to refrain from physical ice hockey, whereas the players from the U18 side tried to play in a more aggressive manner. Initially we wasted a number of scoring opportunities, but then we explained to the players how we wanted them to play. We're looking forward to the competition, it's important for the guys' development.
Russia U18 head coach Alexander Titov:
- Overall I liked our performance, especially if we take into account that five of our players had only participated in one full training session beforehand. It was a bit of a messy match at first as a consequence of the players' desire to prove themselves, but then we played well in the second and third periods. Yes, we wanted to win, but we're still happy with the display. We competed in a physical manner? All of our players must be prepared for physical ice hockey at the tournament, no one will go easy against us. It will be a great experience for our guys against older players.
