Interviews after the under 17 win against Finland
Evgeny Filinov, Russia under 17 head coach:
- The guys improved during the three games. They began to understand what we want to see in both defence and attack, and today we even managed to score shorthanded. Playing three matches in a row against the same opponent is really difficult, and the key match was yesterday, when we won on penalty shots. It deflated the Finns. If we talk about the negatives, then I don't like the fact that we are constantly conceding three or four goals. I can now say that I have 80% decided on my squad for the Challenge Cup, and in October, we will call up some other guys. At this training camp, I managed to look over five lines and three goalkeepers.
Grigory Denisenko, Russia under 17 forward:
- This was the best match of all three: I gave out two assists and scored myself. When we scored shorthanded, I broke out, fed Maxim Shabanov, and he managed to hit the net. I am grateful to Alexander Khovanov for my winning goal, he dished me a great pass after beating opposing players. If we look at the camp overall, the first game was the hardest. Today, we were simply a bit tired after yesterday's fixture. It's great that we won, but we have things to work on.
Yegor Sokolov, Russia under 17 forward:
- I have really positive emotions from this game. The team displayed true character by coming from behind to win. When I scored my first goal, we moved out from defence in the right way, and I beat the goalkeeper at his near post. I had a bit of luck with that one. For my second, my teammates made a great play, and it would have been terrible if I had not scored. Finland hold the puck well, and if you let them have possession, they will punish you. As our coaches say, we should play better every single match. This was only the first training camp, and hopefully things will get even better during the season.
